Worms Cubed
A downloadable game
Submission for My First Jam 2026!
The theme is "growth" so I had the theoretically clever idea that I could do a 3D multi-player clone of Cubes 2048, and in doing so I would grow as a developer (learning 3D and multi-player) and the game itself was about growing your worm!
You join a server populated with AI and in theory human players, move to mouse to move your worm, hold left button in for speed boost.
Collect cubes of value smaller than yourself, and cubes of same value merge and grow into next multiple up.
Map includes double speed, double size powerups, and a negative power-up that reduces you back to start.
You die on bumping the head of a worm bigger than yourself, or eat smaller ones. You can steal blocks out tails of any worm.
Why there is no Itch version
However I bit off a bit more than I could chew in the time available, the multi-player especially introduced many challenges, and deployment of server at the end caught me.
I wasted too much time trying to get an AWS alternate, but in the end was forced onto AWS. After much struggle to get it working (eventually found my old laptop clock was out of sync!) I found the game itself had a pretty bad lag once it was run over the internet.
It also unfortunately does not run on Itch. I do think I know the problem, but for some reason my registrar is just not propagating DNS, and it is now too late to attempt to fix this issue.
The game itself also still has some odd bugs, and AI is not as smart as I wanted as it does not chase you, all my time at the end was wasted trying to get remote servers working.
